Call for law change after cohabit ruling

The UK's 2.2m people who cohabit do not enjoy the legal protections of married couples or those in civil partnerships, which can come as an unwelcome surprise. About 61 per cent of people incorrectly believe that unmarried couples living together “definitely” or “probably” have the same rights as married people, according to Justine Devenney, head of policy at One Plus One, which researches family relationships.
