Avoid a Christmas Day row

According to a 2010 YouGov poll, 15 per cent of Brits expect to have an argument on Christmas Day, with 46 per cent thinking it will be with their partner. So how can you stop a row with your nearest and dearest?

Penny Mansfield, director of relationship support service The Couple Connection, says:

  • To prevent rows be prepared to adapt your plans. Focus on what’s going well. If everyone’s happy it doesn’t matter if, say, dinner is late.
  • The stress from organising the day can cause couples to bicker, but move on quickly. Don’t start obsessing about what’s been said and getting more angry. Let it go.
