Chris and Gwyn choose ‘conscious uncoupling’ route as they split up and aim to ‘co-parent’ and put their kids first

Our director, Penny Mansfield comments following the announcement that musician Chris Martin and actress Gwyneth Paltrow have split up.

Penny Mansfield, director of OnePlusOne said: “The decision to split up is a difficult personal decision.
When you are a parent being mindful of your children’s needs is paramount. OnePlusOne would always ask parents to begin by looking at what they could to overcome their difficulties first, and many couples manage to do this, often with support.

“However, if that doesn’t work out focusing on what the children need is the next best thing. Being aware of children’s feelings and making arrangements that work for them will make what will be a difficult time for them easier.

“Our new online service Splitting up: Put kids first is all about facing the future with children centre stage and working out a Parenting Plan – it’s available anytime from anywhere and its free.”

The couple made the following announcement on Paltrow’s GOOP website:

“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.
