Losing in the long run: Action for Children
By OnePlusOne, 30 March 2016
Research shows the significant difference early intervention services make to children’s and young people’s wellbeing. Although many local councillors believe in the value of early intervention services they are concerned that maintaining spending on services, like children’s centres, will get more challenging. This report looks at the downward trend in funding for early intervention services from central government and spending locally since 2010. It examines whether further reductions are sustainable and desirable, providing evidence from local councillors, young people and parents about the value of early intervention services from their perspective. Recommendations for central government and local authorities are put forward based on the evidence.
