Relationships change over time. Commitments and responsibilities grow, with work and children increasingly dominating day-to-day life. This means that all couples go through good phases and difficult phases as they adjust to the ups and downs of everyday life.
Wanting to be a couple and wanting to be individuals in their own right is part of growing together as a couple, and it is often during the transition from one stage to another that difficulties occur. When children come along many couples are surprised by how quickly they can slip into traditional gender roles, which can cause tension. And with the current economic climate, families are under increasing pressure to work harder and harder.
