  Developing resources on family conflict: The missing link in parenting support reports on the development and completion of evidence-based resources on family conflict. Funded by a Family Support Grant from the DfES, training for nine Community Parent programmes was piloted in all regions of England. A video resource was then developed to help community workers support parents who are experiencing relationship conflict and to improve outcomes for their children. Click here for the full report.

  The final report from our completed 2004-6 Parenting Fund project Enhancing support for parents in conflict can be found here. This project focused on developing further the previously piloted training and resources for parenting educators and supporters on the effects of parental conflict on children. Training to deliver modules within existing parenting courses was cascaded to parenting workers; roadshows were held in all regions of England to raise awareness of the issues; and a website was developed to support parenting practitioners.

  One Plus One Director, Penny Mansfield, was interviewed by Ceri Wild for an article featured on the Improvement and Development Agency (I&DeA) website this month. The interview focused on the origins of One Plus One and the charity's continued commitment to improving the lives of children through evidence based practice and early intervention.   The training team at One Plus One held a one day roadshow to raise awareness amongst commissioners, managers and practitioners in West Leeds about the relevance of supporting families experiencing relationship difficulties and conflict. Over 40 participants came together from education, health, youth justice, faith, social care, legal and voluntary backgrounds. The day included an introduction to the importance of looking at the quality of adult relationships within the context of family functioning, and how this related to the needs of families in West Leeds. There were also two taster sessions for One Plus One’s training resources: Brief Encounters, which equips practitioners with skills to engage with families and offer input on relationship issues; and My mum and dad argue a lot, which informs parents about the impact of parental conflict on children.

One Plus One Staff will be distributing posters this month to raise awareness of our websites The Parent Connection and Married or Not. The posters will go to all Citizens Advice Bureaus in England and Wales.

  About One Plus One

  One Plus One is a team of researchers, practitioners and information specialists whose aim is to enhance understanding of how family relationships contribute to the well being of adults and children through three key activities:

inquiring - monitoring and evaluating knowledge about relationships and effective support in order to develop key messages for policy and practice;
informing - creating imaginative formats for key messages tailored to different audiences, and raising awareness of the impact of couple relationships on the well being of individuals, families and communities;
innovating - developing innovative ways of getting specialist knowledge and skills about adult family relationships and early intervention to everyone working in the frontline with families, thereby adding value to existing practice.
