  News from One Plus One

During January we have seen the release of the Department for Children, Schools and Families Support for all: the Families and Relationships Green Paper, as well as the Centre for Social Justice's Green Paper on the Family and the family section of the Conservative Party's draft manifesto. Both thecoupleconnection.net and Brief Encounters® training have been mentioned in Support for all (page 81 and page 124) .

One Plus One has also announced this month that we will be joining forces with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) to provide an innovative online training package to help GPs support couple relationships.

Jan Mitcheson Head of Practice Development at One Plus One says: "As a former health
visitor I know that strong relationships equal strong families. Training practitioners is key
and I am delighted that we will be working with RCGP".

The Parent Know How Showcase will be taking place next week at the Business Design Centre in London and thecoupleconnection.net will be exhibiting. There are now 18 Parent Know How projects, both helplines and digital services that have helped 2.5 million families. To find out more about the Showcase and register for the event visit www.showcase2010.co.uk.

One Plus One has been working with Relate and the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships to publish our own Relationship Manifesto. The manifesto was published last week and you can view the Press Release here.

Penny Mansfield, Director of One Plus One said: "Relationship instability has increased considerably in the past 25 years but so too has knowledge about its causes and consequences and how to reduce it. In the current difficult economic climate Government can use existing resources imaginatively and effectively by ensuring that those working with parents have that knowledge and that couples can access it themselves through innovative channels, including online."

If you would like a copy of the Relationship Manifesto please email ld@oneplusone.org.uk.

  About One Plus One

  One Plus One is a team of researchers, practitioners and information specialists whose aim is to enhance understanding of how family relationships contribute to the well being of adults and children through three key activities:

inquiring - monitoring and evaluating knowledge about relationships and effective support in order to develop key messages for policy and practice;
informing - creating imaginative formats for key messages tailored to different audiences, and raising awareness of the impact of couple relationships on the well being of individuals, families and communities;
innovating - developing innovative ways of getting specialist knowledge and skills about adult family relationships and early intervention to everyone working in the frontline with families, thereby adding value to existing practice.
