  News from One Plus One

This month One Plus One completed an independent evaluation of fpa’s Life Skills course for young people, and sexual health training for Youth Workers. This report has now been published and can be downloaded here.

One Plus One has also held Brief encounters® training for a number of practitioners trained in Brazelton’s NBAS (Neo-Natal Behavioural Assessment Scale). One Plus One and Brazelton are working together to develop a prototype intervention to support relationships between new parents and between parents and their infant. The project has been funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families through the Children and Young People’s Fund.

In advance of the launch of thecoupleconnection.net, One Plus One hosted a seminar attended by guests and staff entitled Me, my spouse and the internet. Professor William Dutton, Director of the Oxford Internet Institute, Dr Ellen Helsper, Research Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute and Dr Monica Whitty from Nottingham Trent University took the seminar which focused on the impact the internet can have on how we form and maintain relationships.

  During August parents and couples will be able to access One Plus One's new relationship support service thecoupleconnection.net. thecoupleconnection.net is divided into three sections, check it out, talk it out and work it out. By working through the three sections you will be able to find out about relationships and what makes them work or not work, talk to other people about relationships through the forums and work on your own relationship using you own personal space and innovative couple space. The service has been funded by the Parent Know How Innovation Fund. You or parents you are working with can register interest now by visiting thecoupleconnection.net and will be alerted when the site goes live!

  About One Plus One

  One Plus One is a team of researchers, practitioners and information specialists whose aim is to enhance understanding of how family relationships contribute to the well being of adults and children through three key activities:

inquiring - monitoring and evaluating knowledge about relationships and effective support in order to develop key messages for policy and practice;
informing - creating imaginative formats for key messages tailored to different audiences, and raising awareness of the impact of couple relationships on the well being of individuals, families and communities;
innovating - developing innovative ways of getting specialist knowledge and skills about adult family relationships and early intervention to everyone working in the frontline with families, thereby adding value to existing practice.
