  News from One Plus One

One Plus One along with Relate and the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships held joint fringe meetings at all the party conferences this month. Penny Mansfield and the CEOs of Relate and TCCR also met with ministers and shadow ministers. Together the organisations made three key policy recommendations:

1. The 'family proofing' of all policy to ensure that no department undermines strong and health couple relationships.
2. Members of the children and family workforce to be trained in talking about adult relationships, recognising the signs of distress, and referring on to expert services where appropriate.
3. Access to evidence based relationship support to strengthen healthy relationships, and alleviate the effects of family breakdown where it occurs, regardless of ability to pay.

Penny's leading comment Better partners, better parents, in the journal Sexual and Relationship Therapy is now available to access for FREE for one month until the end of October. To access the article, please visit: http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/title~content=g723610767~db=all

  About One Plus One

  One Plus One is a team of researchers, practitioners and information specialists whose aim is to enhance understanding of how family relationships contribute to the well being of adults and children through three key activities:

inquiring - monitoring and evaluating knowledge about relationships and effective support in order to develop key messages for policy and practice;
informing - creating imaginative formats for key messages tailored to different audiences, and raising awareness of the impact of couple relationships on the well being of individuals, families and communities;
innovating - developing innovative ways of getting specialist knowledge and skills about adult family relationships and early intervention to everyone working in the frontline with families, thereby adding value to existing practice.
