Extending our reach and sharing relational skills
November 28, 2024

Extending our reach and helping others to improve their relational skills are two key themes to emerge from our 2023-2024 annual report.

In the full report, which is now available online, we’re proud to share the successes of the past year, and excited to outline our plans for the year ahead.

Verity Glasgow, CEO of OnePlusOne, said:

2023-2024 has been another great year of growth for OnePlusOne. A successful application for government funding has enabled us to develop our first ever app, and it has been wonderful to continue our work with local authorities using our digital Reducing Parental Conflict resources.
This year we also welcomed Marriage Care to our RPC package. Among the organisations investing in our evidence-based materials, Marriage Care are the first charity, and have licenced the package to support couples to learn relational skills before they enter into counselling. Evidence shows that improving relational skills early on in this way can make counselling more successful and can even avoid the need for counselling altogether.
Every annual report is an opportunity to reflect and evaluate on the impact we are having. I’m proud that we have extended our reach again this year, equipping even more people with the skills and confidence they need to build healthy, effective relationships. As an organisation built on research, we are continually learning ourselves, applying our growing knowledge to developing new resources which progress our vision of relational capability for all.
In this period of uncertainty about the future of funding for early support services, it is clear that supporting relationships is fundamental to the quality of public health. How we cope with challenging times, at home, work, or in life, is impacted by the quality of the relationships we have with the people around us. Just as physical fitness is a priority for wellbeing, we want to shine a light on the importance of social fitness and healthy relationships, so that it is given the recognition and support it deserves.

Other highlights from this year’s annual report include:

  • Training 139 practitioners across 35 local authorities to train others in using our resources to support families to reduce parental conflict.
  • Offering our Getting on better and Getting it right for children cards in 13 different languages to help reach diverse communities.
  • Hosting several well-attended online events featuring expert guest speakers to raise awareness of reducing parental conflict work and the importance of relational skills.
  • Improving our digital platforms to help us evaluate data effectively and improving learning.
  • Being successfully awarded government funding to begin development of Separating better, a new app for separating parents.
