More than 50 years of relationship research.

1971
With a vision of offering early intervention support to couples and filling the gaps left by relationship counselling, Dr Jack Dominian and four colleagues each put £10 into a hat. The charity that would become OnePlusOne was born.

‘Our research does not fill books which lie on shelves gathering dust. Every bit becomes the basis for the development of active preventative work.’ – Jack Dominian, founder, OnePlusOne

Pioneered couple communication research, including the first assessment of the financial cost of relationship breakdown.

1990s
Contributed to the passing of the Family Law Bill. Published ‘The Relationship Revolution’ in recognition of the changing nature of relationships. Began training health practitioners with Brief Encounters.

2000s
Published booklets and videos to help reduce the impact of parental conflict, and support parents of disabled children. Launched two websites offering relationship self-help through expert articles and forums.

2010s
Conducted a major study into links between relationship quality and happiness at work. Launched digital courses using innovative Behaviour Modelling Training techniques.
