We are delighted to announce that the evolutionary anthropologist, writer and broadcaster, Dr Anna Machin, has been appointed as a patron of OnePlusOne.

Anna is an internationally recognised relationship expert, widely respected for her research into love, attachment, and human connection. Her work combines rigorous science with real-world insight, helping people to better understand how relationships shape our lives and wellbeing.
As a patron of OnePlusOne, Anna will support our mission to strengthen relationships and improve mental health and wellbeing for families and children across the UK. Her expertise and advocacy for evidence-based approaches to relationship support closely align with our commitment to making research accessible and impactful for families, professionals, and policymakers.
Verity Glasgow, CEO of OnePlusOne, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Dr Anna Machin as a patron. Her knowledge, passion, and ability to communicate complex ideas with warmth and clarity will be a huge asset to our work.
“We share a joint passion for understanding what makes relationships work, and how to support people to get on better. Relationships are central to our health, happiness and ability to cope with life’s challenges, yet are often overlooked in public policy and everyday support. We’re working to change that, and are honoured to have Anna’s support.”
Dr Machin said, “The parenting relationship is arguably the most important relationship within the family because it forms the environment into which children are born and develop. Supporting and protecting that relationship is key to healthy and happy children, and a healthy and happy society. I am honoured to be OnePlusOne’s new patron and look forward to working together with them to promote and support their work with couples and families.”
Anna is a pioneer of fatherhood science, and the author of The Life of Dad, and Why We Love. Her appointment reinforces OnePlusOne’s commitment to grounding relationship support in robust scientific research, something the charity has been leading the way in for more than half a century.
