New message function released on Separating better app
NEWS
August 13, 2025

It’s now possible for parents to communicate with each other using a new messaging function on our Separating better app.

Existing users will need to update to the latest version of the app to access the message function, which will appear as a ‘speech bubble’ icon in the top right-hand corner. They can then invite a co-parent to connect with them and, after the invitation has been accepted, use Separating better to send and receive messages. The app uses a filtering system to help parents check the tone of their messages before sending them, offering helpful suggestions to support effective communication.

This new tool will support parents seeking to reduce conflict, communicate better and make parenting decisions in the best interests of their children.

After a message has been sent, it can’t be edited, and parents can choose to download a copy of their conversation. This means parents can be assured they have an accurate log of any co-parenting plans they have agreed.

The message function is the latest update to Separating better, our free co-parenting app that also features:

  • Expert advice and guidance on a range of separation and co-parenting issues.
  • Work it out videos to help parents learn effective conflict resolution and communication skills.
  • Budget and parenting planners.
  • An emotional readiness assessment tool to help parents understand where they are emotionally in their separation and co-parenting journey.

Separating better is free to access and available to download from app stores. Read more about the story behind the app’s development or access a report about how it is helping separating parents on our website.
