We are saddened to announce that Separating better – our app which has supported thousands of parents through their separation journey – will be closing next month.
Created with funding from the Department for Works and Pensions Reducing Parental Conflict Challenge Fund 2, Separating better was launched in March 2024. However, despite our extensive efforts to secure continued funding, we have been unable to obtain the support we need to keep the app running as a free resource, available to anyone who needs it.
As a charity, our goal has always been to make Separating better a resource that remained available at no cost to families. Without funding to cover the ongoing technical and infrastructure costs required to operate the app responsibly, we are no longer in a position to sustain it.
The app will cease to be available on Friday 20 March 2026
Verity Glasgow, CEO of OnePlusOne, said, “It’s with a heavy heart that we have been forced to close our Separating better app. Since its launch, it has been used by thousands of parents, providing practical and emotional support to help them navigate the separation process. It’s a journey that can be fraught with challenges. As families struggle to wade through an already over-burdened court system, the conflict that often arises can cause lasting damage to the parents and children involved.
“I am proud of what we have achieved with Separating better. Our evidence shows that it has had a positive impact on the parents who used it. It’s hugely disappointing that we have not been able to secure the continued funding necessary to continue supporting even more families.
“While we are forced to close the app for now, we will continue to look for funding opportunities and ways to offer freely available, evidence-based support for anyone who needs it. Research shows the importance of parental relationships to the development and wellbeing of children. With half of all children in the UK affected by separation, support to do it well should not become a luxury only available to those who can afford it.”
What the closure of the app means for parents
From 20 March 2026, the app will be removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play, and will no longer be available for download. Existing users will no longer be able to log in to the app.
Any parents wishing to download copies of their Parenting Plan or Messenger conversations must do this before 20 March. Access to this information will not be possible after this date.
All data will remain securely stored in line with our data protection and retention policies.
What happens next?
OnePlusOne is continuing conversations with government departments to express the importance of investment in relationship and separation support services.
